Throughout 2013 The London Philharmonic Orchestra will appear as the major orchestral partner for Southbank Centre’s year-long multi-art form festival The Rest Is Noise. Inspired by Alex Ross’ seminal book of The Rest Is Noise: Listening to the Twentieth Century, the festival explores 20th century history and art through concerts, films and debates. Throughout the year we chart some of the key moments in 20th century music history, and delve into the fascinating stories behind some of the era’s most influential, inspiring and controversial works and the people who stirred them into life.
